Deceit T-shirt

from This Heat

T-Shirt/Apparel

Screen-printed with a rare version of the cover artwork from Deceit, one of the foundational records of the post-punk era (released in 1981 on Rough Trade), the manufacture of this high quality organic cotton T-shirt is Climate Neutral, PETA-Approved Vegan and accredited by the Fair Wear Foundation.

Deceit's cover artwork, by Gareth Williams in collaboration with artist and xeroxer Laurie-Rae Chamberlain, presents a mask of collaged images mapped onto a face by means of slide projection. The images pertain to the album’s central preoccupation that humanity was on a nuclear collision course with itself and include a mushroom cloud in place of a nose while the stars and stripes line the inside of the subject's gaping mouth. Reagan and Brezhnev are also present alongside illustrations from the UK government’s “Protect and Survive” booklet.

Apart from the high contrast graphic treatment for one colour printing, the T-shirt’s artwork differs from the album cover in that it presents the mask collage in its original two-dimensional, pre-projected state.

Screen-printed white on black this first release is limited to sizes S through XL.

This Heat London, UK

Although widely considered to be Post-Punk’s finest, This Heat actually began performing their music in the early days of London’s punk era.

They developed new strange and volatile strains of avant-garde music that time has proved to be hugely influential, a blueprint for much that would follow.

Ahead of their time, their music is as startlingly original and relevant as the day it was created.
